How to Clip on Kick: Desktop, Mobile and VODs
A short, sourced walkthrough of making a Kick clip from a live stream or a VOD, with the rules that trip people up and what to do when the button is missing.
To clip on Kick, open a livestream or a VOD while logged in, press the Clip icon or the C key, pick your moment, add a title and press Publish. The clip can be 10 to 180 seconds long. This guide follows Kick's own help center and keeps to what it says, so you will not find guesses or hype here.
Who can clip, and the rules
From Kick's help pages:
- Any logged-in viewer can clip, and so can the streamer. If you are not logged in, you will not see the option work.
- Length: 10 to 180 seconds. That is a maximum of three minutes on both desktop and mobile. You can shorten a clip to any length with the slider.
- Cooldown: 60 seconds. After making one clip, you wait a minute before making another.
- Banned from chat means no clipping. If you are banned from a streamer's chat, you cannot make clips on that channel.
- The streamer can switch clipping off for their channel. Only the streamer can change that, and viewers cannot work around it.
- Only the channel owner can delete clips. Even if you made a clip, you cannot remove it from someone else's channel.
How to clip a live stream on desktop
- Log in to your Kick account and open the stream.
- Click the Clip icon in the player, or press C on your keyboard.
- A Create clip window opens. Use the slider to set the length. The length indicator shows your selection and the maximum.
- Check the preview. Drag the timeline handles to choose the exact moment, and edit the title or description.
- Click Publish. The button reads "Publishing to KICK" while the clip is generated.
Clips capture a fixed amount of stream time around the moment you press the button, according to Kick, so your target moment might not sit perfectly in the middle. You can fix that in step 4, or trim the clip after creating it.
How to clip on mobile
Kick's article says the length limit is the same on mobile (180 seconds), but it does not list a separate set of mobile steps. In general you open the stream or VOD in the Kick app or mobile browser while logged in and look for the clip control in the player. The Create clip window then works the same way: pick the length, check the preview, title it and publish.
Since Kick may change its apps, we do not describe exact button positions. If the Clip control is missing on your phone, see the troubleshooting table further down. We have not run these steps on specific phones, so treat this section as an outline. If one device misbehaves, Kick suggests trying a different browser or the Kick app.
How to clip from a VOD
Kick confirms that clips can be created from VODs, not just live streams. That helps when you missed the moment live or want to save something before the replay expires. The process is nearly the same:
- Open the VOD and play or scrub to the moment.
- Press the Clip icon or C.
- Choose the length (10-180 seconds), preview, and title it.
- Publish.
One difference Kick points out: the option to post the clip into the streamer's chat is not available when clipping VODs.
The urgency matters because VODs do not last. Kick's replay article says verified streamers can keep replays up to 30 days and non-verified streamers 7 days. We compare the two formats in Kick clips vs VODs.
After you publish: download, chat or share
Once a clip is published, Kick offers three options:
- Download saves the clip to your device. Anyone can download a clip from its page using the Download button, and the file is an .mp4.
- Chat posts the clip in the streamer's chat (not available for VOD clips).
- Clip Link copies the link so you can share it on other platforms.
To share, copy the link and paste it where you want it. A public clip link opens the clip page for anyone. If you are unsure which link format you have, see Kick clip link formats.
If you want a standalone MP4 without opening Kick's page, you can paste a public clip link into KickClips and use Save MP4. That is an independent tool, not affiliated with Kick. For the whole download process, there is a step-by-step download guide.
When the clip button is missing or a clip does not appear
Kick has a help page on clips not saving or clip errors. Its causes and fixes, condensed:
| Problem | Likely cause (per Kick) | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Clip button missing or greyed out | Clipping is disabled on the channel | Nothing on your end; only the streamer can change it |
| Cannot clip | You are not logged in | Log in |
| Cannot clip | Stream just started | Wait a short time, then try again |
| Cannot clip | Streamer is not live | You can usually only clip from a live stream (VODs are the exception covered above) |
| Clip did not save | Still processing | Clips can take a few minutes; wait, then check your clip library |
| Clip did not save | Wrong account | Make sure you are signed in to the account that made it |
| Clip did not save | Processing failed | Clip the same moment again if the stream is still live |
| Clip is missing | The streamer may have deleted it | Only the channel owner can delete clips |
| Preview will not play | Browser or cached data | Refresh, try another browser or the Kick app, clear cache and cookies |
| Everything is broken | Platform problem | Check the Kick system status page |
| Wrong moment captured | Window or timing | Trim the clip after creating it, or refresh to load the latest stream before clipping |
If none of it works, Kick says to contact its 24/7 support with your username, a description of the problem, the channel, the date and time, and a screenshot if possible.
Tips for a better clip
- Clip right after the moment. The clip window is around the moment you press, so do not wait.
- Aim short. You can use up to three minutes, but a tight 20-40 seconds is often easier to watch and share.
- Write a clear title. It helps people recognize the clip and helps you find it later.
- Plan for the cooldown. If something big is happening, make your first clip count, because you cannot make another for 60 seconds.
- Be considerate. The footage belongs to the streamer and sometimes to others on screen. Ask before reposting it elsewhere and credit them. Our article on legality and permission explains why.
What this guide leaves out
We only cover what Kick documents. We do not cover paid clipping programs, bounties, or third-party AI clip makers, because Kick's help pages do not describe them and we have not verified such claims. If you want to know if a clip-for-pay offer is real, ask Kick support or the streamer directly.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Kick clip be?
Clips are 10 to 180 seconds (up to three minutes), on both desktop and mobile. You can shorten the clip with the slider before publishing.
Why can't I clip on Kick?
The most common reasons from Kick's help are that you are not logged in, the streamer has disabled clipping, the stream just started, or the streamer is offline. You also cannot clip if you are banned from that streamer's chat. Try refreshing the page or restarting the app.
How long do I have to wait between clips?
60 seconds. After you make one clip, Kick makes you wait a minute before creating another.
Can I clip a VOD instead of a live stream?
Yes, Kick says clips can be created from VODs, but you must do it before the replay expires (up to 30 days for verified streamers, 7 days for non-verified). Posting the clip in chat is not available for VOD clips.
Where is my clip after I publish it?
It can take a few minutes to process. After that, check your clip library, and make sure you are on the account that made it. If the clip is gone, the streamer may have deleted it, since only the channel owner can delete clips.
