Troubleshooting
Kick Clip Not Downloading? A Troubleshooting Checklist
Go from symptom to fix: Kick-side causes, downloader-side causes and a table that matches what you see to the most likely reason.
If a Kick clip is not downloading, start with three quick checks: is the link a clip link, is the clip public and finished processing, and is your browser healthy. Most failures come from one of those. This checklist separates problems on Kick's side from problems on the downloader's side, and it is honest about which causes we know and which are only possibilities.
Quick checklist (do these first)
- Does your link look like
https://kick.com/<channel>/clips/clip_XXXXorhttps://kick.com/<channel>?clip=clip_XXXX? If it is a channel, live-stream or VOD link, it will not work. - Open the link in a normal browser tab. Does the clip play for you, logged out?
- Was the clip just created? Wait a few minutes and try again.
- Reload the downloader page and paste the link again.
- Try desktop Chrome. That is the only browser we have tested KickClips in.
- Pause extensions and VPNs and try once more.
If it is solved, you are done. If not, read on.
Kick-side causes
These come from Kick's help page on clips not saving or clip errors. They matter here because if the clip does not exist or work on Kick, no downloader can fetch it.
- The clip is still processing. Kick says clips can take a few minutes to process and become available. A very fresh link may not be ready yet.
- The clip failed during processing. Kick says a clip "may have failed during processing." The fix on Kick's side is to clip the same moment again, if the stream is still live.
- You are looking at the wrong account. If you have several accounts, the clip may belong to another one.
- The streamer deleted it. Kick's clip guide says only the channel owner can delete clips, and that a missing clip was likely deleted by the streamer.
- The clip preview will not play at all. Kick suggests refreshing, trying another browser or the Kick app, clearing the cache and cookies, checking your connection and looking at the Kick system status page. If the clip will not play on Kick itself, a downloader will usually struggle too.
- A problem on Kick's side. An outage affects everyone. Check the status page and try later.
If a clip is missing from your own library or will not save, our guide on how to clip on Kick has the full table.
Downloader-side causes
These are things that go wrong between your browser and the tool. Some are definite, and some are possibilities we cannot confirm for your setup.
The link is the wrong type
This is the most common cause we can state for certain. KickClips takes a public clip link. It does not accept a channel link, a live-stream link, a VOD link or a profile link. If you copied the address while watching a live stream or a VOD, it is not a clip link. Make the moment into a clip first (see Kick clips vs VODs) or find the right link in this link-format guide.
The clip is private, deleted or not public
KickClips downloads public clips only. It cannot fetch clips that were deleted or are not public, nor subscriber-only or private content. If the clip loads only when you are logged in, or says it is unavailable, that is almost certainly why.
The clip is not finished processing
A brand-new clip may be visible to you but not fully ready. Wait a few minutes, refresh the clip page on Kick, confirm it plays there, then try again.
The browser runs out of memory on a long clip
KickClips works in your browser. Depending on the clip, it either downloads a ready-made MP4 or downloads the video's pieces (HLS segments) and joins them on your device. The joining step needs free memory, and larger clips need more. In our tests, a 30-second clip came to roughly 35 MB and a 60-second one to roughly 49-77 MB; a three-minute clip will be bigger.
If a long clip stalls or the tab crashes, the browser may be short on memory. Possible remedies:
- Close other tabs and heavy applications.
- Restart the browser and try again.
- Use a desktop computer instead of a phone. Phones typically have less memory to spare, and we have only tested desktop Chrome.
The processing seems slow or stuck
Processing time mostly depends on your connection. A slow or unstable connection can make a download seem frozen. Give it a bit, and if it really is stuck, reload and retry on a more stable connection.
Network, VPN or ad-blocker interference (possibilities)
We cannot see your network, so treat these as things to try, not as diagnoses:
- A VPN or proxy may change how your browser reaches Kick. Turn it off briefly to see if it matters.
- An ad-blocker or privacy extension could, in principle, block requests the page needs. Try the page in a private window with extensions disabled, or whitelist the page.
- A work, school or public network may block some sites or traffic types. A different network, such as your mobile data, would show whether that is the cause.
- An outdated browser may lack features the page relies on. Update it.
None of these is a certain cause, but they are cheap to rule out.
A different browser or device behaves differently
KickClips was tested in desktop Chrome on Windows. We have not tested iPhone Safari, Android Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Mac, so results there may differ. If your phone gives trouble, try desktop Chrome. Mobile-specific tips are in our iPhone guide and Android guide, written without claiming tests we have not run.
Diagnosis table: symptom, likely cause, fix
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Error right after pasting the link | Link is not a public clip link (channel, live or VOD link) | Copy the clip's own link, in the /clips/clip_... or ?clip=clip_... format |
| "Not found" or unavailable | Clip deleted, private or not public | Open the link on Kick while logged out; if it does not play, it cannot be downloaded |
| Works on Kick, not in the downloader | Clip still processing, or a temporary hiccup | Wait a few minutes, reload, retry |
| Preview loads but Save MP4 never completes | Slow connection or low browser memory | Close other tabs, retry, or use desktop Chrome |
| Browser tab freezes or crashes on a long clip | Out of memory while joining the video | Restart the browser, free up memory, try a desktop computer |
| Nothing happens when you press Download | Extension, ad-blocker or script blocked | Try a private window with extensions off |
| Spinner never ends | Network, VPN or proxy interfering | Disable VPN, switch networks, retry later |
| Saved file will not open | Player problem or incomplete download | Try another player such as VLC; download again |
| Phone downloads but you cannot find the file | Saved to a downloads folder, not the camera roll | Check the browser's downloads list or Files app |
| Kick's own page shows an error | Kick-side outage or failed clip | Check Kick status page, try later, clip again if live |
If you still cannot download it
- Retry later. Many failures are temporary on Kick's or your network's side.
- Try Kick's Download button. Anyone can download a clip from Kick's clip page using the Download button, which saves an .mp4. If Kick itself will not give you the file, the clip likely has a problem on Kick.
- Ask the streamer. If a clip was removed, the channel owner can tell you why, or may share the footage.
- Contact us. Email
[email protected]with the clip link, your browser and operating system, what you clicked and what happened. We are independent and not part of Kick, so we cannot fix problems inside Kick or recover deleted clips.
What KickClips cannot fix
For the record: KickClips does not download live streams, full VODs, highlights, subscriber-only or private content, deleted clips or non-public clips, and it is not a bulk downloader. If your goal is on that list, no amount of retrying will change the outcome. The main tool is built for one thing: saving a public clip as an MP4.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Kick clip not downloading?
The most common reasons are a link that is not a clip link, a clip that is deleted, private or still processing, or a browser that is short on memory for a long clip. Work through the checklist above, starting with the link.
What link should I paste?
A public clip link in the form https://kick.com/<channel>/clips/clip_XXXX or https://kick.com/<channel>?clip=clip_XXXX. Channel, live-stream and VOD links are not clip links.
Why does the clip play on Kick but not download?
It may still be processing, the connection may be slow, your browser may be short on memory, or an extension or network setting may interfere. Try a fresh reload, close other tabs, try desktop Chrome and retry later.
Can I download a clip that was deleted?
No. If the clip is deleted or not public, KickClips cannot fetch it. Kick says only the channel owner can delete clips.
Does a VPN or ad-blocker stop downloads?
It can in some setups, but we cannot say it will in yours. Turning them off briefly is a quick way to find out.
